Her feet tangled in the roots of a pine tree and she went sprawling across the slick brown needle carpet. For a second she laid there, gasping like a trapped fox into the undergrowth, bits of leaves and dirt stuck to the side of her face in a mix of muddy sweat. She could hear the shouts and the dogs baying as they moved in. She wanted to run but more than that, she wanted to lie still and rest. The world began to rush away from her.
